In May 2024, Uber and Costco When they announced their recent collaboration, I felt thrilled. This is because I receive a 10% cashback on purchases made through Uber and Uber Eats using my card. credit card I believed that using Uber Eats for Costco orders would be a simple way to save money. I received a $60 discount on my initial Costco order through a promotion on Uber Eats, which made me optimistic about future savings.
After that, I decided to try Uber Eats again to get Costco groceries. However, this experience turned out to be disappointing. While having my Costco items delivered to my doorstep was very convenient with no need to deal with queues, crowded parking lots, or shopping cart frenzy, it was costly and I couldn’t find all the items I needed.
If you are a Costco member or new to Uber Eats, I have reasons why I would not recommend using the app for grocery delivery.
Items sold at Costco are priced higher on Uber Eats compared to their prices in physical stores.
Costco typically increases the prices of products on delivery apps and its website compared to what is available in its physical stores. This price adjustment is meant to cover the costs of delivery services and to support the delivery workers on these apps. However, these increased prices may result in you paying more than if you had made the purchase in-store.
Remember to take into account the charges and tip the person who delivers your order.
Despite the markup on Costco products, additional delivery and service charges are also required when ordering through Uber Eats. If you are an Uber One member, this could potentially increase your total cost by around $12.
If I did not have an Uber One membership linked to my credit card, I would need to cover approximately $14 for delivery and service charges, which also account for taxes. As a result, my total bill would come to around $172, when rounded up. However, with my Uber One subscription, the cost is approximately $162.
At last, the delivery driver’s tip is considered. I consistently give a minimum of 15% tip for my Uber Eats deliveries.
